Physical training programs and exercise therapy

Physical training is extensively studied in progressive MS, particularly because it can have direct effects on muscle strength, mobility and fatigue. Research shows that targeted therapeutic movement can help with spastic symptoms and contribute to maintaining physical function. Many people with MS use complementary therapies – herbs, supplements, acupuncture, mindfulness or dietary interventions. Research shows that expectations about effectiveness play a major role: people who are convinced something works often experience improvements in wellbeing or symptoms, regardless of actual efficacy.

Use is widespread, but the scientific basis is weak for most complementary approaches. Some may be harmless alongside regular treatment; others can interfere with immunosuppressants or other medications. This always requires discussion with your healthcare provider.
