The microbiome is the collection of all microorganisms naturally living in and on the body, such as bacteria, viruses, and fungi. The largest and most studied group is in the intestines, but the skin and mouth also have their own microbiomes. Researchers map the microbiome using DNA testing of stool or other body materials. The word appears on codex.care because the microbiome can influence inflammation, the immune system, and how the body responds to medications, which plays a role in various incurable diseases.
